Performance Pay 2015

In 2011 The Florida Legislature passed into law Senate Bill 736.  With it's passage the Florida Statues were changed regarding how teachers would be paid in the future.  Teachers hired after July 1, 2014 are required to be paid using a performance pay system based in part on the results of the Value Added Model or (VAM).  The law also has other requirements for how unions and school districts negotiate to create and maintain performance pay plans as well as maintain their grandfathered step pay schedules.  This creates a very complex negotiating environment that will make it very challenging to reach agreement on new contracts.

The United Teachers of Dade wants to hear from you regarding this crucial issue and is beginning a process for this interaction with a short survey.  We appreciate your feedback and will continue to work with our members to create the best contract possible.

Your answers will be made anonymous so that no one will know what your particular answers were.

It is preferable that you respond to this survey from a computer not connected to the MDCPS system.

Employee number is for identification only.  Personal information in this survey will not be shared with anyone outside UTD.

You can read the Florida Statutes regarding teacher pay systems (here.) Click the back button in your browser to return to this survey.

Knowledge of how the VAM works.
Knowledge of the implications of Annual Contracts.
Knowledge of how Performance Pay would work under the law.

UTD and MDCPS have worked over the past several years to create a grandfathered pay scale that can work with the new law but significant funding challenges have limited the progess we have been able to achieve.  The current scale has a step that is worth over $6000.  This would make funding a performance pay schedule, and a step schedule, extremely difficult without massive funding increases from the legislature or sacrifices from certain groups of employees.  UTD is working to solve these issues but needs your input and participation in order to reach a successful resolution.
