PEA is pleased to announce our new 40-Hour Reading Requirement course. This 40 hour Reading/ESE course was created to fulfill the new Florida statute requirement for teacher recertification under rule 6A-4.0051. This course prepares educators to offer explicit, systematic, and sequential multisensory instruction in reading, while also learning about the science behind and interventions required for students with reading challenges including ELLs, dyslexia, and a variety of disabilities. Starting with recertification year 2025, all teachers will need these 40 reading-specific points in order to renew your teaching certificate if you hold any of the following certificates: Elementary Education (K-6) Prekindergarten/Primary Education (age 3 through grade 3) Elementary Education (grades 1-6) Primary Education (grades K-3) English (grades 1-6) Middle Grades English (grades 5-9) Middle Grades Integrated Curriculum (grades 5-9) English (6-12) Reading (K-12) Reading (Endorsement) English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) (grades K-12) The session dates are as follows: Day 1 – Monday, July 15th from 10 am - 4 pm Day 2 – Tuesday, July 16th from 10 am - 4 pm Day 3 – Wednesday, July 17th from 10 am - 4 pm Day 4 -- Thursday, July 18th from 10 am - 4 pm Day 5 -- Friday, July 19th from 10 am - 4 pm (You must attend and complete all 5 sections of the class and complete the follow-up to meet the requirement and earn in-service points) This is an entirely face-to-face course delivered at the PEA office located at: 730 E Davidson St. Bartow, FL 33830 All PEA Professional Development courses are offered exclusively and for FREE to members! Preference is given to PEA members with certification expiring soon. Registration is limited to 50 participants. A confirmation will be sent to those in the class after the class has been filled.
