AFT-WV Survey: School Calendar

HB 2433, a bill to set uniform starting and ending dates (Memorial Day and Labor Day) in the school calendar, was defeated. However, there are still two other bills alive (SB 661 & HB 4745) that propose altering the current school calendar in some way. AFT-WV recognizes our members have varying opinions on the school calendar issue, so we are seeking your input.

• Do you believe the current school calendar law provides for sufficient input from stakeholders (teachers, service personnel, parents, community members, etc) when developing county school calendars?
• Do you support a uniform start date (ex: after Labor Day) that would allow for counties to request waivers from that uniform date if needed, for all WV public schools?
• Are you happy with the current provisions of the school calendar law?
